The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise started out in 2008 as one of the eight original teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Over the years, the team has been led by several captains, each bringing their own leadership style and tactical approach. While RCB has boasted some of the finest players in IPL history, their quest for an elusive title remains ongoing.

In desperate pursuit of a title, the franchise named a rising star as new captain for the IPL 2025 season. Here, we take a look at all players who have captained the RCB franchise to date, be it in IPL or in the now-defunct Champions League T20.

RCB captains over the years

The RCB team management announced Rajat Patidar as the new captain of the team for the IPL 2025 season, allowing the Indian cricketer to take over the leadership role from former skipper and legendary South African batter Faf du Plessis. The RCB franchise finished fourth on the IPL 2024 points table, securing seven wins and seven defeats with an NRR of 0.459. However, their campaign came to a crashing end with a defeat in the Eliminator match of the tournament.
