Although the T20 World Cup is less than a month away, the Indian team is still busy figuring out the best possible XI for its campaign-opener against Pakistan.

The biggest conundrum of all is arguably KL Rahul's position in the playing XI. As a stretch of low scores has gripped Rahul under the poor form, a certain section of fans and pundits want him to don the role of a middle-order batter. But, there are a few, who are content with him in his usual role in T20 cricket.

Meanwhile, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who is also Rahul's IPL mentor, has backed the latter to come good as an opener.

"You know what happens in India? The moment someone starts doing very well, for example, when Virat Kohli scored a hundred in the last game, we all start forgetting what Rahul and Rohit have done over a long period of time," Gambhir said as quoted in a virtual press conference.

"When you talk about Kohli opening the batting, imagine what happens to KL Rahul... Imagine the amount of insecurity he (Rahul) must be feeling. Imagine if he gets a low score in the first game, there will be another debate on whether Kohli should open in the next game," he added.

As three T20Is each against Australia and South Africa awaits India, Rohit and Co. would want to fill the remaining pieces of the puzzle before the drums roll for the World Cup.
