Pat Cummins has welcomed Tim David's inclusion in the Australia squad and is hopeful of the youngster performing well in the T20I series against India starting September 20.

David rose to fame in the 2020-21 edition of the Big Bash League, wherein he smashed 279 runs at a strike rate of 153.29 for Hobart Hurricanes.

In the IPL 2022, the 26-year-old hit 186 runs at a prolific strike rate of 216.27 for Mumbai. Then, he slammed 405 runs to help Lancashire reach the Finals of the T20 Blast.

David has amassed 1,874 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 168.40 in 86 T20 matches in the last two years.

The consistent performances finally earned him a maiden Australia call-up for the India series and the T20 World Cup 2022 squad.

Ahead of the 1st T20I, Cummins thinks David will be an x-factor for Australia, due to his ball-striking abilities in the slog overs.

"It's great to see Tim David get his chance," said Cummins.

"He's been right up there with the best in the world. It's really hard to be consistent coming in when there are spin bowlers or at the end of the innings. I think he's been fantastic.

“If he gets his chance, hopefully, he can continue doing what he’s been doing in the domestic leagues around the world. I think he’s an X-factor."

In the absence of Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh, David is likely to be making his T20I debut at Mohali.
