  • Former Australian Batter Adam Voges Has Backed Pacer Jhye Richardson

Former Australian batter Adam Voges has backed pacer Jhye Richardson

Voges said that Jhye would fight back into the Australian team during the Sri Lankan tour after missing out on his central contract.

Richardson injured his calf during the Ashes 2021-22, and after that, his hamstring issues put him in the backseat as he had to miss the Shield final. Moreover, the rise of Scott Boland meant that he was left out of the list of 20 players on the central contract list of Cricket Australia.

The Western Australia coach believes that Richardson is committed to making a solid statement in the Sri Lanka tour after he was left out of the contract list.

"He's going really well. He was clearly disappointed to miss out on his CA contract. But I think that'll be a very temporary thing. I think once we get a fully fit Jhye Richardson up and about, we saw what he did in the four Shield games that he played for us last season," said Adam Voges as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

"He had a huge impact. He took five wickets in the last Test match that he played for Australia so I think he'll fight his way back into the Australian teams pretty quickly. It's great that he's part of the white-ball part of the Sri Lankan series and then the A series…I know that he is really disappointed about missing out but hopefully he'll use that as a fairly big motivator to have a big 12 months coming up," he added.

The 25-year-old Western Australian pacer played his last Test match against England at the Adelaide Oval, where he bagged a five-wicket haul to help his team win. Later, he was seen in Australia's last home T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Richardson has been picked for the Sri Lanka T20Is but is named in Australia 'A' side, which will play two four-day games and as many 50-over games.
