Temba Bavuma reveals his long-term ambition, playing and captaining in IPL

South Africa's limited-overs skipper Temba Bavuma has revealed his long-term ambition of not only featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but also captaining one of the 10 franchises.

Bavuma, who will be leading the Proteas in the upcoming five-match T20I series in India, revealed that he has 'developed this fantasy' of captaining an IPL team.

However, he is pretty realistic about it, as he admitted that he needs to put in strong and consistent performances in order to warrant a place in the side in the first place.

"I would like to play there. The stronger my performances, the more realistic the opportunity becomes. I've also developed this fantasy of captaining a team. I don't know where that comes from. I'd like to get that experience as well. But I kinda need to get into a team before that happens!" Bavuma was quoted as saying by the Cricket Monthly.

The 15th season of the IPL recently came to an end, and as always, the South African cricketers like David Miller, Aiden Markram, Quinton De Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis etc. made a lasting impression.

Speaking on the same, Bavuma expressed his delight at so many Proteas cricketers grabbing their opportunities at such a big stage like the IPL.

"It's nice to see some of our guys doing well. KG (Kagiso Rabada) is en route to being the quickest to 100 wickets. That's something to be proud of. And Marco Jansen -- how he has gone and performed. Or Aiden (Markram)," Bavuma added.

"And even the younger guys who have showed their ability. There is a lot of talk about Dewald Brevis. He is an exciting prospect for our cricket. And Tristan Stubbs, getting a go. It's been nice to see those guys."

Bavuma was instrumental in South Africa, beating India 2-1 and 3-0 in the Test and ODI series last winter, and the Proteas skipper will hope to do an encore when he and his team lock horns with the KL Rahul-led unit later this week.
