England opener Ben Duckett has deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account following backlash over his comments about India’s Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the upcoming five-Test series between the two nations. However, this isn't the first time the England opener has dipped his toes in hot waters.

Earlier, his comments on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Champions Trophy Final claim also garnered a lot of backlash and attention from fans and critics alike. However, the recent developments strode into a serious yard.

Ben Duckett Deletes X Account In fear Of Criticism?

Ben Duckett, who faced Jasprit Bumrah during England’s 2023 tour of India, asserted prior experience would negate any element of surprise against the pace spearhead, while also acknowledging Mohammed Shami’s threat. His remarks sparked social media debate, prompting him to clarify his stance before exiting the platform.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Duckett downplayed concerns about facing Bumrah, emphasising his familiarity with the bowler’s tactics.

“I’ve faced him in a five-Test series before. I know what he’s going to do to me, and the good thing about that is I know what skills he has. There’s going to be nothing that surprises me. It’s going to be challenging, and the red-ball skills of Mohammed Shami are just as threatening as Bumrah. But if I can get through that opening spell, I feel there are runs to be had.”

Duckett later defended his comments on X, clarifying, “I never said I’m going to score runs against him. Read the article before making assumptions.”

Screenshots of his replies circulated widely before he deactivated his account. During England’s 4-1 Test series loss in India last year, Bumrah dismissed Duckett once and finished as the third-highest wicket-taker (19 scalps in four Tests), despite spin-dominated conditions.

The opener also suggested India’s dominance at home might not translate abroad when they will come for the series in England.

“India at home is very different to India away. It’s a side I feel we should beat and we can beat. It’ll be a good series,” he added.

While Duckett's comments have been a bit speculative his recent action of deleting his X account suggests he does not want to get deeper with the negative attention and took a break off of things.

Nevertheless, the teams will clash in England later this year, after the conclusion of IPL 2025 which is starting on March 22 at Eden Gardens Kolkata between KKR and RCB.
