Pakistan's swashbuckling opener Fakhar Zaman is on the brink of eclipsing Saeed Anwar on an illustrious list. Led by Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan are set to face New Zealand and South Africa in a Tri-Series on home soil. The hosts will lock horns with the BlackCaps in the series opener in Lahore on February 8.

Fakhar Zaman Aims To Break Saeed Anwar's Record vs NZ

Pakistan's explosive opener Fakhar Zaman finally made his much-awaited ODI comeback after an ankle injury sidelined the in-form Saim Ayub. The experienced batter has been an absolute champion in ODIs, amassing 3492 runs in 81 innings at an average of 46.56 and a strike rate of 93.44.

Meanwhile, Fakhar eyes legendary opener Saeed Anwar's huge record in the first ODI of the Tri-Series against New Zealand. Anwar, who was the backbone of Pakistan's batting in the 90s, recorded four ODI centuries against New Zealand. Interestingly, Fakhar also has four tons under his belt against the Kiwis in ODI cricket.

Thus, if Fakhar slams a century on his ODI comeback game, he will surpass Anwar and register the most tons by a Pakistani batter against New Zealand in 50-over cricket. As shown in the above table, former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja claims the third position with three hundreds, while Ahmed Shehzad and Babar Azam have two ODI centuries against New Zealand.

The first ODI of the Tri-Series will be played between Pakistan and New Zealand at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The game starts at 2.00 PM local time, which translates into 2.30 PM IST.
