Fakhar Zaman has high hopes for the West Indies series

Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman aims to become the top run-scorer in the three-match ODI series against West Indies.

While addressing the press meet hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at the National High-Performance Centre (NHPC) in Lahore, the left-handed batter said that his focus is on the upcoming ODI series and scoring big runs against the two times World champions.

"All of my focus is on the West Indies series, and the way our preparation is going, we are having a great time in the camp. The goal is to become the top scorer in the upcoming series and score big runs," Fakhar Zaman told reporters while addressing the media in Lahore on Friday.

Fakhar also stated that the persistent heat has been causing problems for pacers at the ongoing conditioning camp for players here at the National Cricket Academy ground but added that the players enjoyed themselves.

"In this scorching heat, the bowlers have more issues. It is okay for us batters. Most of our cricket season, we play in this weather. So it doesn't make any difference to us."

The 32-year-old top-order batter said that the historic visit of the Australian team has benefited the unit a lot as it has allowed the fans in Pakistan to witness the games live on their home turf.

"We were missing them a lot, the way our crowd was coming in, kids supporting all the stars. Our crowd had a great time with the Australian players.

They are a fantastic side, and after a long time, they have toured us. It is a great sign for us, and such competitive cricket on our grounds, it has benefited us a lot as a team," he added.

Earlier, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja met the players in Lahore and advised them to play fearless cricket during the upcoming season. As a result, a total of sixty cricketers have been invited by the PCB for the conditioning camp at the National High-Performance Centre (NHPC) in Lahore in two different groups.

The first group of 27 cricketers are attending the camp, which started May 15, while the second group comprising 33 cricketers will participate in the camp from May 26 to June 10.

"There is more focus on fitness in the Conditioning camp, and the normal camp is based around skill work since there is less time. We have more time in this. As far as meeting with Ramiz bhai is concerned, he motivated us a lot. He shared his future plan and wants to see us play a particular brand of cricket. He also shared his experience as an ex-player," concluded Fakhar.
