Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to make a major move ahead of the 2026 IPL season. They’re bringing in one of world cricket’s most respected minds, Tom Moody, as their Global Director of Cricket.
The experienced Australian will oversee cricket operations across all of the RPSG Group’s franchises, including LSG in the IPL, Durban’s Super Giants in SA20, and their Manchester-based team in The Hundred.
LSG rope in Tom Moody to lead the global cricket empire
Tom Moody, who turned 60 in October, is a veteran of the game, both as a player and coach. Over the past two decades, he’s built a reputation for turning teams into consistent winners.
Most recently, he guided the Oval Invincibles to their third consecutive Hundred title earlier this year. But, according to ESPN Cricinfo, the Australian opted for the Lucknow opportunity, which offered him a bigger, global role.
For Tom Moody, this is a return to the IPL after a brief break. His last IPL coaching experience was with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he played a pivotal role in building the identity of the franchise.
He led the franchise to an IPL trophy in 2016 and propelled them to the playoffs in most seasons.
Moody to replace Zaheer Khan
Meanwhile, at LSG, Tom Moody replaces Zaheer Khan, who had taken over as Global Director for just one season and parted ways with the franchise in September 2025. Reports also say Moody’s appointment is part of a larger reboot for the franchise.
With his extensive global experience in roles across the ILT20, Caribbean Premier League and international cricket, Tom Moody will likely provide more structure, strategy, and direction to the Super Giants’ setup.
After two consecutive playoff finishes in 2022 and 2023, LSG has struggled the past two IPL seasons. They finished seventh in IPL 2025 with six wins out of 14 matches.
