England can breathe a sigh of relief as their star all-rounder Ben Stokes has declared himself fit and ready for selection in the upcoming World Cup 2023 match against South Africa.

Stokes missed the first three games in the 2023 World Cup because of the hip injury he sustained while hitting the gym. It all happened just before the quadrennial tournament kicked off.

England suffered a crushing nine-wicket defeat at the hands of New Zealand, but they rebounded to beat Bangladesh by 137 runs in their next game, only to lose to Afghanistan in the following match.

Here’s what Ben Stokes told BBC ahead of their upcoming game

"[It was] a frustrating little niggle to get before the tournament starts. But I have worked very hard to get back to where I am and making myself ready to be available for selection."

“We have had a few days off since the last game and the first training session here in Mumbai. [I will] give it a good push but, yes, I think everything is pretty good. I am in a good place."

Reflecting on England's tournament journey in the 2023 World Cup, Ben Stokes shared his optimism about the team, assuring that there's plenty more to come, and England will make a robust comeback.

“We are only three games into the tournament. There is still a long way to go. It [the loss to Afghanistan] was disappointing at the moment, but at the end of the day, we have lost a game of cricket in a World Cup.”

“Everyone is going to lose games and it's one of those things we had to deal with quickly, understand that we didn't perform well but move on, and understand we have a lot more cricket left to play."

England is set to take on South Africa on Saturday, October 21 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
