England Fine-Tune Ashes Squad as Spin Sensation Joins National Camp Ahead Of Lord's Test

In a significant development, England have amended their Ashes squad, drafting promising leg spinner Rehan Ahmed into their side ahead of the second Test at Lord's. Ahmed joins England's star-studded lineup as a cover for veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali, who is nursing a finger injury.

Notably, Ali injured his right index finger during the recently concluded Edgbaston Test, which Australia won by a bare two-wicket margin on an eventful final day. Struggling with the injury, Ali provided his side with prized scalps of Travis Head and Cameron Green, conceding 204 runs across two innings.

As the experienced campaigner has damaged his spinning finger, England have made a sensible call to add Ahmed to their setup.

Talking about Rehan Ahmed, the 18-year-old featured in a solitary Test against Pakistan in December last year, scalping seven wickets, including a fifer. In eleven First-Class appearances, he has taken twenty-two wickets at a strike rate of 57.8.

The first match of the Ashes 2023 saw Australia register a memorable two-wicket win over their arch-rivals, courtesy of Pat Cummins' all-round masterclass.

Chasing a steep target of 281, the visitors were on the verge of a heart-breaking defeat, reeling at 227 for 8. However, the gritty duo of Cummins and Nathan Lyon stitched an unbeaten 55-run stand for the ninth wicket, guiding their side to an emphatic victory.

After losing the first game, England will look to bounce back in the series by winning the Lord's Test starting on June 28.
