ENG vs NZ | WATCH: Joe Root gifts Daryl Mitchell stump in consolation after series win

In a heartwarming act, England batter Joe Root handed a stump to New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell after the hosts' triumphant victory in the final affair of the three-match Test series.

England had already won the series after ending on the positive side of the result in the second Test, but today's victory led Ben Stokes and Co. to a clean sweep over the Kiwis.

While Ollie Pope's early wicket on Day 5 would have ignited some belief in the Kane Williamson-led team, Jonny Bairstow in Root's company made a mockery of the 296-run chase. It took only 15.2 overs on the last day for England to achieve the win.

While it was time for the customary handshakes, the ex-England skipper Root, who was in the thick of things, made sure Mitchell did not go home without a stump.

It turned out to be a path-breaking series for Mitchell, who emerged as the highest run-scorer. With 538 runs in three matches, including three hundreds and two fifties, the 31-year-old left his mark in every England stadium that hosted the concluded series.

The Three Lions take away all the honours. Jack Leach, for his 10-for, was named the Player of the Match, while Root was awarded the Player of the Series after scoring 396 runs.
