BCCI instructs Indian players to stay indoors ahead of clash against England

The covid positive case of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma last week during the practice game has forced the BCCI to float a new guideline for all the members of the Indian team ahead of the series decider against England starting July 1.

As per the reports, the board has instructed the Indian players to stay indoors and limit their public appearances to keep them healthy for an important fixture.

In April this year, England Cricket had removed all the guidance relating to COVID-19 for the players but also urged them to be responsible for others.

A BCCI source has reckoned that the board has scolded some players for their reckless behaviour in terms of interactions with the public. He further claimed that the players were told to be careful in this aspect but did not follow the same rules.

“The board has scolded some players over their habit of hanging out in public. It also seems some players went in public and clicked pictures with fans, which could be dangerous. We had told them to stay careful, but they still often roamed around in the city, which is not required, so we asked them again to take precautions,” the source from the BCCI told ANI.

The key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were witnessed posing for photos with the fans ahead of their practice game against Leicestershire. However, in the last few days, the photos of wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant also floated around social media, which has irked the BCCI.

With three days remaining for the rescheduled fixture, it will undoubtedly be a race against time for Rohit, while others need to be fit as well to help the Indian team to field their strongest XI. Mayank Agarwal was also called as a cover for Rohit for the fixture.
