ENG vs NZ | Daryl Mitchell matches Don Bradman’s record after breakthrough England tour

Daryl Mitchell had an England tour of some magnitude, something which could open the gateway for a long stint in the Kiwi red-ball side. While New Zealand were completely dismantled by a spirited English side, Mitchell hardly put a foot wrong throughout the course of the series.

The Kiwi middle-order batter ended the series as the top run-getter by a comfortable margin. He scored 538 runs in six innings at an impeccable average of 107.60. Dominating England in their home conditions is quite a bit of a challenge, and Daryl Mitchell achieved it in style.

Daryl Mitchell became only the second overseas batter after Don Bradman to score a hundred in each of the three Test matches in England. The 31-year-old batter scored a hundred in the second innings at Lord’s. He marginally missed out on a double-hundred in the second Test, after falling to Matthews Potts for a score of 190. In the same Test, he scored an unbeaten knock of 62 runs in the second innings.

Mitchell continued his exploits again in the final Test, scoring 109 runs in the first innings. He backed it up with a half-century in the latter innings. Don Bradman scored three consecutive hundreds against England way back in 1930. Since then, no overseas batter has been able to achieve this feat.

Former English batter, Ken Berrington emulated the same feat in 1960 against Pakistan. Graham Gooch was the final batter to score three successive hundreds against India in 1990.

Tom Blundell was the only other New Zealand batter to thrive in the English condition. He ended the series, scoring 383 runs in six innings at an average of 76.60.
