Moeen Ali draws similarities between MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja as captains

All-rounder Moeen Ali has become an integral part of England's white-ball setup over the last couple of years.

His rise has been attributed to his performances for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. However, Moeen, who has played under both M.S. Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja, has said that the latter will find his footing as captain in the future.

In an interview with Sports Today, Moeen said, "He's (Jadeja) inexperienced in terms of captaincy and leading CSK was tough for him this year because we weren't playing well as a team. But he has got a good brain and he potentially could be a good leader in the future".

The 35-year-old spoke in detail about the similarities between Dhoni and Jadeja.

"I have played under him. I have played under M.S. Dhoni as well. There is not much difference between both of them in terms of the characteristics - very calm, very loyal to their players. Brilliant captain, brilliant player".

Jadeja was appointed CSK captain ahead of the IPL 2022 edition, where he eventually relinquished his role mid-way through the campaign after a string of losses.

The Chennai-based franchise finished ninth in the points table, above five-time winners Mumbai Indians.

Dhoni is expected to lead the four-time IPL winners in 2023, which will most likely see them play at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Moeen, who played under Dhoni's captaincy in his inaugural IPL season, scored 357 runs and picked up six wickets during the IPL 2021 edition, which saw him revive his career. The left-hander failed to hit top form in the last edition, managing just 244 runs from 10 games.

The off-spinner was full of praise for former England captain Eoin Morgan, who announced his international retirement on Tuesday.

He concluded, "We were horrendous in white ball cricket before that (2015 World Cup). He changed the mindset of the players. Actually, the way England are playing now in Test cricket, I believe, is actually because of him. He showed that if you have the mindset, you can play fearless cricket, which we are playing now".

The Birmingham-born recently announced his return to Test cricket after taking early retirement last year.
