ENG vs NZ | 3rd Test | England add Jamie Overton to 14-member squad

England have added Surrey pacer Jamie Overton to the 14-member squad for the third Test against New Zealand starting June 23 at the Headingley Cricket Ground.

On the back of strong domestic performance, Overton has been added to the squad as the only change in the England Test side. The tall seamer has taken 21 wickets at an average of 21.6 playing a key role in Surrey's unbeaten run in the county championship. The 28-year-old lower-down batter has also made vital contributions to his county side, scoring 212 runs in seven innings, averaging 53 in the process with the bat.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have named a 14-member strong squad for the third and final Test of the series against the Blackcaps.

"Surrey seamer Jamie Overton has been called up to the Test squad for the first time and will join his brother Craig (Overton) in the squad," the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a release.

"The England Test squad will report to Headingley on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the match starting on Thursday. England lead the three-match series two-nil."

In his 81-match first-class career, Jamie has picked up 206 wickets, including five fifers. Overton was first named in an England squad almost a decade ago when he was included for an ODI series against Australia in 2013. The Surrey pacer was also called up to the England ODI squad against New Zealand in 2015. He was a part of the squad but was confined to the bench.

Jamie's brother- Craig Overton, has been a regular member of the Test squad for the last year, while Jamie has earned a Test call-up for the first time in his career. However, it's unlikely that either of the two players will get an opportunity as England will look for a series whitewash.

Uncapped batter Harry Brook has also been retained in the squad for the Test on his home ground. However, it seems unlikely that he will get an opportunity, especially after England's middle-order turned up in the second Test at Trent Bridge to chase down a huge total of 299 in just 50 overs.

England have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series against New Zealand after winning the last Test by five wickets on Tuesday. The third Test between the two nations will be played at Headingley.

England's 14-player squad: Ben Stokes (c), James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Foakes, Jack Leach, Alex Lees, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Matthew Potts, Ollie Pope, Joe Root.
