WI vs BAN | Clinical West Indies dominate Bangladesh on Day 1

West Indies bowlers ensured that they extracted the best out of the pitch, which was supporting seamers, to take an early advantage against Bangladesh on day one of the first Test in Antigua on Thursday.

Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales took 3 wickets each, while Kyle Mayers and Kemar Roach had two to their credit to restrict the visitors to a total of 103 in their first inning. It was a shambolic batting display from Bangladesh as they had no answers to the West Indies' pacers' swing, pace, seam and accuracy.

Earlier, West Indies won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first on the tricky wicket of Antigua. Shakib Al Hasan-led side, meanwhile, witnessed disastrous batting collapse as 6 of their batters registered ducks, which is also the joint highest in the history of Test innings.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, former Test captain Mominul Haque, Nurul Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Khaled Ahmed were among those who couldn't even manage to open their account on Thursday.

Newly appointed Test captain Shakib Al Hasan was the top run-getter for the team as he scored a quick 67-ball 51 to take the team past the three-figure mark. Tamim Iqbal also played well, having scored 29 runs off 43 balls at the top, but due to the lack of support from the other end, he failed to convert the start.

West Indies, in reply, got off to a terrific start as their opening duo Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell shared a 44-run stand for the first wicket. However, Mustafizur Rahman eventually halted the good-looking partnership as he bowled out Campbell for the score of 24 (off 72).

Raymon Reifer was next to join Brathwaite in the middle as the pair went on to put up a 28-run partnership before Hossain bowled a beautiful inswinger to get rid of Reifer for 11.

At stumps, West Indies were 95 for the loss of 2 wickets after 48 overs, with skipper Braithwaite and Nkrumah Bonner batting at 42 and 12, respectively. While the hosts will look to post a huge total on board on the second day of the game, Bangladesh will be hoping to bounce back stronger and start fresh, keeping all the disappointments of the first day aside.
