ENG vs IND | Jasprit Bumrah's audacious spell, followed by Rohit's rampage ensures win for India

Jasprit Bumrah's career-best figures and Rohit Sharma's whirlwind unbeaten 76 has helped India thump world champions England by ten wickets at the Oval and claim a 1-0 lead.

On what was an overcast morning at the Oval, the England batters had no answers to Jasprit Bumrah, who, en route to his career-best figures (6/19), consigned the hosts to 110 which is their lowest score in ODI cricket against India.

Pace, seam, swing, extra bounce; Bumrah generated all of these in plenty in helpful conditions at the Oval, leaving a power-packed English attack gasping for breath.

Jason Roy, Joe Root and Liam Livingstone registered a duck as Bumrah ran riot.

Roy was the first casualty for England, and once he departed, the rut never stopped. Roy made the cardinal sin of chasing a swinging, wide delivery from Bumrah, only to hit it back on his stumps.

Absolute peaches undid Root and Bairstow from the fast bowler, where they had no option but to nick the outside off-stump.

While the extra bounce undid Root on a short of a length delivery outside off-stump, Bairstow was undone by a length ball that straightened after pitching. Rishabh Pant did the rest by taking a brilliant diving catch.

While Bumrah ran riot from one end, Mohammed Shami (3/31 in 7) did the same from the other end as the right-arm seamer cut Ben Stokes in half, and Pant claimed an excellent diving catch to his right.

It kept getting worse for England as Bumrah knocked over Liam Livingstone (bowled around his legs) shortly to reduce them to 5-26.

Jos Buttler (30 off 32 deliveries) and Moeen Ali (14 off 18 deliveries) tried to resurrect the sinking ship for some time, but the Indian seamers were just too hot to handle.

Prasidh Krishna removed Ali by taking a brilliant return catch while Shami got rid off Buttler with the short-pitch ploy as the English white-ball skipper took it on, only to hole out at the boundary.

Shami, en route to 150 ODI wickets, then knocked over the top of the off-stump of Craig Overton before Bumrah returned not only to claim his best figures in ODIs but also the figures by an Indian against England by shattering the stumps of David Willey & Brydon Carse.

The target of 111 was never going to bother the Indians, and the only chance that England had was my taking early wickets.

And while their new-ball bowlers tested the opening pair of Rohit and Dhawan with movement, the conditions had pretty much eased out, and once the duo got their eye in, they cashed in.

Rohit, as usual, was imperious with his hooks and pulls, and apart from his poor call, which nearly ran Dhawan out, the Indian opener hardly put a foot wrong.

En route to 5000 runs as an opening pair, the duo scored just 21 in the first six before they pressed on the accelerator against Reece Topley, smashing the left-arm seamer for three boundaries.

From then on, it was easy pickings for Rohit and Dhawan as they strolled to yet another 50+ stand.

Sharma laid into Carse in the 17th over as he pulled the seamer for a couple of sixes besides carving him past point for a boundary to bring up his half-century.

The duo proceeded to bring up their 18th-century stand in the format. Rohit then smashed another hook shot for a six before Dhawan creamed a square-cut off Carse to seal the deal in the 19th over and complete a 10-wicket hammering of England.
