ENG vs IND | India's massive win over hosts provides massive boost in rankings

After their clinical win against England in the first ODI, India climbed spots in the ICC Men’s ODI team rankings, overtaking Pakistan.

India managed to triumph over the Three Lions by ten wickets, leading the 3 match series 1-0. This was India’s most significant away win by the margin of balls remaining. With this ten-wicket victory, Men in Blue added three more points to their rating, currently standing at 108 points.

India gained the third position leaving behind Pakistan with 106 rating points.

World Cup finalists New Zealand tops the chart with 127 points, followed by defending champions England with 122 points. Australia completes the top 5 with 101 points.

Of the top 5 teams, England, Australia and India have played 23 matches each, whereas New Zealand and Pakistan have played 14 and 19 games, respectively.

On Tuesday, Indian bowlers were having a field day as they restricted the champion side to their lowest ODI total (110) against India. Jasprit Bumrah ended the match with figures of 6 for 19, his best in ODI cricket.

This is the 3rd best bowling figure by an Indian in ODI’s after Stuart Binny’s 6 for four against Bangladesh in 2014 and Anil Kumble’s 6 for 12 against West Indies in 1993.

Pacers took all ten England wickets as Mohammad Shami took three and youngster Prasidh Krishna took one.

Skipper Rohit Sharma (76*) and Shikhar Dhawan (31*) managed to forge an unbeaten opening partnership of 114 runs, the 18th time they have gone past the 100 mark.

The pair also reached another milestone, as they are only the fourth opening pair to go past 5000 runs together. Moreover, they became the second opening duo to achieve this record after Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly.

With two more matches left in the series, India will be eying for a dominating performance and provide much-needed match time as a team. With big names back in the squad, Men in Blue will want to bring back stability as major tournaments are just around the corner.
