ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifiers B 2022 | Day 2 Round-up

ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifiers B 2022 moved to the second day on Tuesday, July 12.

With Zimbabwe, the USA, Netherlands and Uganda claiming their respective victories on the first day of the competition, Singapore, Jersey, PNG and Hong Kong were left with a lot to ponder.

The competition's finalists will attain direct entry to the first round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, where the battle will be even more intense.

Four more matches were being played on the second day in Bulawayo itself.

Below is the summary of how each match panned out:

Singapore vs United States, Group A

An outstanding 5-wicket haul from Saurabh Netravalkar helped the USA skittle Singapore for a paltry 69 to claim their victory by 132 runs.

After putting 201 runs on the board with contributions from Steven Taylor and Jaskaran Malhotra for 58 each, the USA eased their way past Singapore. However, Singapore batters didn't have an answer to Netravalkar's deliveries as the score of 21 by Anantha Krishna was the highest.

The USA now sit comfortably on the top of group A with two wins in two, whereas their opponents Singapore occupy the last place.

Brief Scores:

United States 201/6 (20 Overs)

Steven Taylor 58 (31), Jaskaran Malhotra 58 (33);

Amjad Mahboob 3/54, Akshay Puri 2/31

Singapore 69/10 (15.2 Overs)

Anantha Krishna 21 (22), Janak Prakash 13 (13);

Saurabh Netravalkar 5/12, Nisarg Patel 2/12

Match Result: USA won by 132 runs.

Zimbabwe vs Jersey, Group A

After registering a win in the first game, hosts Zimbabwe thrashed their other opponent Jersey by a margin of 23 runs.

Led by Sean Williams' 57 off just 39 deliveries, Zimbabwe posted 146 on the board before Ryan Burl's three wickets made Jersey's chase far-fetched. Harrison Carlyon and Benjamin Ward did look to fight for Jersey but couldn't manage to capitalise on the opportunity.

Zimbabwe eased home, in the end, to add two more points to their tally, holding onto the second spot, just behind the USA. Jersey, with no wins so far, are placed third.

Brief Scores:

Zimbabwe 146/8 (20 Overs)

Sean Williams 57 (39), Luke Jongwe 29(13);

Elliot Miles 2/25, Dominic Blampied 1/5

Jersey 123/6 (20 Overs)

Harrison Carlyon 45(56), Benjamin Ward 35(20);

Ryan Burl 3/13, Tendai Chatara 1/21

Match Result: Zimbabwe won by 23 runs.

Hong Kong vs the Netherlands, Group B

Hattrick by Dutch spearhead Logan van Beek ensured a Netherlands victory over Hong Kong by seven wickets.

Electing to bat first, Hong Kong couldn't do much, scoring just 116 in about 18 overs, with a contribution from Nizakat Khan, who managed 60 off 55, but none of the other batters showed fight. Van Beek and Klaassen ran through the Hong Kong line-up, with Max O'Dowd and Bas de Leede taking the Netherlands home.

The Netherlands, with two wins, are at the summit of Group B, whereas Hong Kong, with little resistance and zero wins, are at the bottom.

Brief Scores:

Hong Kong 116/10 (18.1 Overs)

Nizakat Khan 60 (55), Kinchit Shah 13 (14);

Logan van Beek 4/27, Fred Klaassen 2/16

Netherlands 117/3 (13.2 Overs)

Max O'Dowd 45(27), Bas de Leede 36 (27);

Ehsan Khan 2/18, Aizaz Khan 1/11

Match Results: Netherlands won by 7 wickets.

Uganda vs Papua New Guinea, Group B

Skipper Assad Vala's fiery 93* off just 47 deliveries helped PNG cruise past Uganda in what could have been a crucial match for them.

Put into bat by PNG, Uganda's Ssesazi and Riazat Ali stitched a 108 runs partnership for the third wicket helping the team extend their score to 160 runs after the end of 20 overs. However, the partnership between the duo went in vain as the opposition skipper's formidable innings put the Ugandan bowlers under pressure, and they chased the target within 17 overs.

With one win from two matches for both teams, Uganda and PNG sit on second and third positions, respectively.

Brief Scores:

Uganda 160/4 (20 Overs)

Simon Ssesazi 78 (48), Riazat Ali Shah 48 (44);

Charles Amini 2/20, Semo Kamea 1/30

PNG 161/2 (16.4 Overs)

Frank Nsubuga 2/16, Dinesh Nakrani 0/19

Match Result: PNG won by 8 wickets.
