The Sri Lankan tour added to my sense of curiosity: Pat Cummins

Hosts Sri Lanka thumped Australia by an innings and 39 runs inside four days of the series-deciding Galle Test. While the defeat for Pat Cummins and co. in the second Test drew level the two-Test rubber 1-1, the Australian cricketers seem to have made some unforgettable memories from the island nation.

After opening batter David Warner had penned an emotional note for Sri Lankan fans on his Instagram post, captain Cummins has now opened up on his tour experience.

Several Sri Lankans marched protests around the Galle International Stadium during the recently-concluded second Test match. The protests marked the continuation of the ongoing economic and political turmoil in Sri Lanka.

After the series, the Australia Test skipper said:

"We've got protests around the ground, and it really hits home how lucky we are to be travelling the world but also, in some ways, it's more than just being here to play cricket. You can see the impact it can have,"

"We got lots of messages from back home, just saying 'how is it, hope you're OK, and we felt totally fine. But you could hear when it changed from protests into a party,"

"Talking to some of the staff around the hotel and a couple of the drivers, they're doing it really tough, one-day eating, one day off eating to try to feed their kids. It's really tough", Cummins concluded.

In the meantime, hosts Sri Lanka are gearing up to face Pakistan in another two-match Test series. The first of the two matches will be played at Galle between July 16 and July 20, and the home series will conclude on July 28 at Colombo.
