Indian players celebrate a wicket in second ODI
India Women registered an emphatic 88-run win over England in the second ODI at Canterbury. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur made headlines with the bat through her sparkling ton while speedster Renuka Singh dealt the finishing blow later in the contest.
After the match, captain Kaur hailed the collective team effort for India’s series-clinching win and also praised Singh for her opening blitz at the top of the English order.
Harmanpreet Kaur says team depends a lot on Renuka Singh
Renuka Singh struck twice within the first 10 overs of the English run-chase, sending Emma Lamb and Sophia Dunkley packing back to the pavilion. The speedster returned later in the innings and crumbled the hosts’ middle-order as India Women registered an 88-run triumph.
While speaking with the reporters after the match, the Indian skipper praised Singh for her sublime new-ball bowling alongside senior warhorse Jhulan Goswami. Kaur also talked about the pacer’s role in the side, and how the team is highly dependent on her with the ball. She said:
“She (Renuka Singh) always gives us breakthroughs and our team depends a lot on her.”
Singh finished with figures of 4-57 and played a vital role in dusting the home side for just 245. Her spell, coupled with Kaur’s blistering ton drove India Women to a remarkable series win in England.
The Indian Women will now face the Englishwomen in a dead-rubber third ODI on September 24. The match is scheduled to be played at Lord’s, London.
