Dubai Capitals Announce David Warner As Captain For ILT20 2024

On Sunday, Dubai Capitals announced David Warner as their captain for the forthcoming second edition of International League T20. The veteran opening batter signed the deal with Dubai Capitals which is nothing but the sister franchise of the team he plays in the Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals.

Warner is an experienced campaigner and has successfully led many T20 sides around the world. He is also regarded as one of the best captains in the history of the cash rich league, the IPL where he had a successful time as captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, leading them to their only title back in 2016.

The Aussie superstar is going to play his last Test match of his career in the upcoming third Test against Pakistan in Sydney. He will be busy with several franchise league assignments following his retirement from the longest format of the game.

He will be playing for Sydney Thunder in the ongoing BBL13 before flying to Dubai to represent and captain the Capitals in ILT20 2024 which is scheduled to take place from January 20 to February 18. The Dubai based franchise will feature some of the biggest names like Sikandar Raza, Joe Root, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rovman Powell with local stars like Vritya Aravind.

The Capitals finished fourth in the last edition of ILT20 where they got beaten by MI Emirates in the Eliminator match. They will be looking to do better and go one step further to clinch their maiden title with Warner being a splendid addition. The dynamic left-hander has a very good record in the UAE in the recent past.

Warner was the player of the tournament in the 2021 T20 World Cup which took place in the Emirates. He amassed a total of 289 runs in seven innings and had a major contribution in Australia winning their maiden men’s T20 title.

The 37-year-old is likely to be unavailable for selection in Australia’s upcoming white-ball series against West Indies in February which will clash with ILT20 2024 schedule.
