Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (CSKCL) has signed the core group from the IPL for the inaugural edition of the CSA's newly planned T20 league.

In what is coming as a joyous news for the Super Kings fans, the Johannesburg-based side has announced the star performer Faf du Plessis as their skipper after directly signing him for US$375,000 (₹ 2.98 Crore).

Another of CSK's big name, Moeen Ali, the current English all-rounder, has also been roped in for US$400,000 (₹ 3.17 Crore). However, considering his name was also included in the UAE's ILT20, the Southpaw decided to stay with his current IPL franchise after some calls and much insistence from the CSK management and MS Dhoni.

Along with above mentioned two prominent names, the Men in Yellow have acquired the services of Maheesh Theekshana, Romario Shepherd and Gerald Coetzee for $200K, $175K and $50K, respectively. While Theekshana was already associated with the franchise, Shepherd and uncapped African pacer Coetzee are the new additions.

Coaching staff back at the helm of things

Not just the players, the India Cements-owned side has even preserved the coaching duo of Stephen Fleming and Eric Simmons, who will be taking charge as head coach and assistant head coach, respectively.

To add more delight to treat, former CSK all-rounder Albie Morkel who played for the team from 2008 to 2013, will join in some capacity for the much-hyped league.

Players acquisition process

The teams will be allowed to sign 17 players in total, from which seven can be overseas and the rest from the domestic South African core. The total auction purse of $2 Million will be provided to the franchises, out of which the money spent on direct signings will be deducted at a maximum of $250,000 per player, and the amount above that will be counted towards the marketing budget.

The auction scheduled to take place on 20th September will allow 12 players to be bought to complete the squad.
