Suryakumar Yadav in action
As the teams are gearing up for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, India are experimenting with their combinations before they finalize the squad for the mega-event.
The Men in Blue have made quite a few experiments in the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies. One such experiment was the decision to open the batting with Suryakumar Yadav.
The experiment has failed so far as Suryakumar registered low scores in both matches. In the first T20I, he scored a 16-ball 24 and then he managed just 11 off 6 in the second game.
Reflecting on decision of opening with Suryakumar, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri said that the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team should not tinker with his batting position. He further said that the management should play him at the position which will be allotted to him at the showpiece event in Australia.
Suryakumar is a certainty for the World Cup, says Shastri
“Suryakumar (Yadav) is a certainty in the side. Bat him in the number he will bat at in the World Cup. And because if Rohit is opening the batting he will open with KL Rahul when he is back. If you want to give an opportunity to someone else, give to someone you want to check out. A guy who is a certainty, if you have decided where he is going to bat in the World Cup, bat him there. Don't tinker around,” Ravi Shastri said on Fan Code.
Shastri believes that the stylish right-handed batter should be locked in the middle-order where he plays his best cricket.
