On Saturday (27 August), Disney Star bagged the rights to broadcast all the ICC Men's and Women's matches from 2024 to 2027 for the Indian market. The deal would encompass both TV and Digital rights.

It is another feather to the cap for the major broadcaster this year, after winning the TV rights of the Indian Premier League from 2023-27.

According to the reports, a total of 48,575 Crores have been spent by the Star to acquire the ICC and IPL rights.

The bids were opened on Friday, which witnessed Star emerging as the clear winner. However, the decision was made public on Saturday following the ratification by the ICC board.

However, the current winning bid is said to be over $1.44 billion for four years, suggesting a highly lucrative deal for the apex board.

ICC Chair Greg Barclay thinks Star will play a crucial role in helping the game to reach a wider audience.

“We are delighted to continue to partner with Disney Star as the home of ICC cricket for the next four years which has delivered an outstanding result for our Members and will support our ambitious growth plans. They will play a crucial role in the future of our sport and connecting and engaging with more fans than ever before," said Barclay.

Other broadcasters, Sony, Viacom and Zee could not put up as strong bid as Star, and the overall process was completed in a single round sealed bid process.
