In a sad turn of events, a 13-year-old child died of electrocution at a Delhi ground while playing cricket on Saturday afternoon after coming into contact with an iron pole carrying wires to a nearby cow shed when he went to get the ball.

The incident occurred at a ground in West Delhi's Kotla Vihar Phase 2. The deceased's friends called the police, and the boy was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital but was declared dead.

The police have registered a case under the section of death of a person by a negligible or rash act. The recent rains have resulted in more deaths or injuries from electrocution as it is not the first or the only time that not only a cricketer or a sportsperson has lost their life because of electric shocks from iron poles.

A Similar incident occurred in Goregaon East, Mumbai where a 10-year-old boy, Adil Chaudhary, came into contact with metal sheets when he climbed onto the roof of a police chowki to fetch the ball, resulting in his death. Adil was a 5th-standard student.

Talking about cricket in Delhi, then the DDCA recently launched a new T20 league 'Delhi Premier League' which will begin from mid-August and feature the likes of Rishabh Pant and Harshit Rana.
