Indian women’s cricket star Deepti Sharma added a prestigious feather to her cap as she was officially appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Uttar Pradesh. The 27-year-old all-rounder, received her DSP uniform during a ceremony in Moradabad, capping off a journey that began with a childhood dream of serving the nation both on and off the field.

Deepti’s appointment mirrors a growing trend of Indian cricketers being honoured with police roles for their sporting excellence. The previous year, pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj was named DSP in Telangana, receiving his badge after India’s T20 World Cup triumph. Like Siraj, Deepti’s accolade, a cash reward of INR 3 crore and the DSP post were bestowed by her home state government, recognizing her contributions to cricket and inspiring youth.

Deepti Sharma Thanks UP Government After Appointment

The formal handover of the post in Moradabad was an emotional affair, with Deepti Sharma's father, Bhagwan Sharma, and brothers, Sumit and Prashant, standing proudly beside her. Clad in her crisp khaki uniform, Deepti met the officials of the profession.

Later, the Agra-born cricketer took to social media to express her joy, calling the DSP role a proud milestone.

She thanked the Uttar Pradesh government for the honour, writing, "I’m overwhelmed with gratitude as I achieve this milestone! I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my family, whose unwavering support and blessings have been my driving force. I’m also grateful to the Uttar Pradesh Government for this opportunity to serve."

Deepti Sharma's Stellar Year In Cricket

While her police role marks a new chapter, Deepti’s cricketing credentials remain formidable. Named in the ICC Women’s T20I Team of 2024 alongside Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh, she dominated the year with 30 wickets at an average of 17.80, including a match-winning 3/13 against Nepal and a clutch 3/20 vs Pakistan.
