The Delhi Capitals (DC) social media team delivered a masterclass in cheeky banter on Saturday, March 1, ruthlessly trolling Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) after their counterparts hastily deleted a month-old tweet following a crushing defeat in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
While on-field banters are pretty common with players taking a jab at each other in the game of cricket, social media battles have also been a household sport nowadays under the rise of the league's popularity.
DC Roasts RCB With Deleted Tweet
The drama traces back to February 17, when RCB defeated DC by eight wickets in Vadodara. Ahead of that match, DC’s social media team had posted, that they wanted their girls in blue to win, to which RCB later quote-tweeted with a gloating “Uno reverse” after their victory.
Fast-forward to Saturday’s rematch in Bengaluru, where tables turned spectacularly, DC thrashed RCB by nine wickets, chasing down 148 with 29 balls to spare. Shortly after the loss, RCB’s admin quietly deleted their earlier “Uno reverse” tweet, a move DC’s admin swiftly pounced on.
“Tweet deleted?” DC tweeted from their official handle, accompanied by a screenshot of RCB’s now-vanished post.
The jab instantly went viral, amassing over 300,000 views and 1.6k retweets on X (formerly Twitter) within hours, with fans lauding DC’s sharp wit. RCB’s social media team, notably, has yet to respond.
Shafali Verma Stars as DC Humble RCB
The on-field action mirrored the online spice. Opener Shafali Verma bulldozed RCB’s bowling attack with an unbeaten 80 off 43 balls, including eight fours and four sixes, while Jess Jonassen provided flawless support. Their 139-run partnership sealed DC’s dominant win, propelling them to the top of the WPL table with 10 points and a playoff berth secured.
RCB, meanwhile, slumped to their fourth consecutive home loss at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite Ellyse Perry’s gritty 60 guiding them to 147/5, their bowlers were dismantled, leaving the Smriti Mandhana-led side languishing in fourth place.
With playoffs looming, DC’s dominance, both on and off the field, has set the stage for a fiery finish to the season. As for RCB? Their admin might want to keep the tweet drafts handy and the delete button closer.
