David Warner’s leadership ban to be discussed by Cricket Australia

Australian opening batter David Warner’s leadership ban is set to be reviewed by Cricket Australia. 

As per reports, the committee will be determining the cricketer’s captaincy future after a lifetime captaincy ban was imposed on him for his involvement in the 2018 Sandpaper Gate.

Warner is likely to lead Australia again

The charismatic Australian batsman has already led his national side in three ODIs and nine T20Is between 2016 and 2018. He also served as Test deputy to Steve Smith when the latter was in charge of Australia’s Test battalion.

Both cricketers were handed year-long bans from competitive cricket following 2018’s ill-fated ball-tampering scandal in South Africa. 

Furthermore, Smith and Warner were also stripped of their captaincy and vice-captaincy going forward.

In a remarkable turn of events, Cricket Australia decided to review Warner’s future as captain, as reported by Ben Horne from News Corp Australia.

The opening batsman is currently in Sri Lanka for a full-fledged tour. He has aggregated 130 runs across three T20I innings and helped pick up a 2-1 win for his side over the island nation in the series.

The visitors failed to replicate their success in the ODI segment of the tour as they lost three matches in succession to concede the series to the Dasun Shanaka-led side. 

Warner scored an excellent 99 in the fourth ODI, albeit in a losing cause and will now be seen facing the hosts in a dead rubber on June 24.

The cricketer will also feature in Australia’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka from June 29 at Galle.
