Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced its interim head coach after current head coach Mark Boucher announced his departure from the role. Ahead of South Africa's tour of Australia for a three-match Test series CSA has announced its pick.

The new interim head coach

Malibongwe Maketa, who is the current South Africa A coach and the National Academy Lead has been named as the interim coach for the Australian Test tour. He will take charge from December and until early January.

Maketa was also part of South Africa's entourage for the England tour, he was also the assistant head coach of the Proteas from 2017-19.

CSA Chief Enoch Nkwe comments on the appointment

“We are pleased to name Malibongwe as our interim coach to lead the Proteas in Australia. He is a familiar face to the environment and has worked in the same space previously when he served as assistant coach."

"Mali knows most of the players well; they know him too; and with such a short time between now and the tour, we as Cricket South Africa felt we needed someone who could step in immediately and lead us through what is an important series for the Proteas."

The Proteas are currently ruling their group in the points table of the T20 World Cup 2022. They stand at number 1 in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage of the tournament.
