Cricket Australia set to take a look at the way broadcasting visions are provided to the third umpire following a controversial not-out decision on Simon Harmer catching Marnus Labuschagne at slip on a rain marred Day 1 of the ongoing third Test between Australia and South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Australia were off to a great start on Day 1 of the third Test despite losing David Warner early as both Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne looked set for another marathon innings.

In the 40th over, with Dean Elgar and co desperate for a wicket, Labuschagne edged Marco Jansen to Harmer at first slip, who looked to have completed a low catch.

The decision was sent upstairs with a soft signal out from the on field umpire Paul Reiffel.

However, Richard Kettleborough, the third umpire, ruled the decision to be not out after reviewing various side-on angles provided by the host broadcaster, Fox Sports.

But in a dramatic turn of events, a front-on angle replay from the Seven Network which the third umpire never had access to, did make that catch appear to have dismissed Labuschagne.

Cricket Australia committed to make a change

Speaking to SEN, Nick Hockley, CEO of Cricket Australia came up in support of the umpire’s decision but also said that CA will take a look into the matter and will come to a conclusion on whether to supply the third umpire with visions from both the television rights holders.

“The match referees and umpires are making the best decisions they can with the sources they have available.

“The broadcasting of cricket is probably the most complicated of any of the major sports. We have a huge number of cameras everywhere. Yesterday was  really, really fine margins. It's something we will take a look at after the end of the Test match.”

Hockley was further left frustrated about the bad light and rain which resulted in an early end to Day 1. Australia continued Day 2 on 147 for 2 with Usman Khawaja and Steven Smith on the crease.
