Steve Smith surpasses Australian stalwarts in multiple milestones

In a remarkable turn of events, veteran Australian batter Steve Smith broke multiple records during his sensational knock in the third Test against South Africa in Sydney. 

Coming at number three, Smith hammered 104 runs off 192 balls, going past Matthew Hayden and Michael Clarke in the list for the most Test runs for Australia. 


Most runs for Australia in Tests

  • Ricky Ponting - 13378 in 287 innings
  • Allan Border - 11174 in 265 innings
  • Steve Waugh - 10927 in 260 innings
  • Steve Smith - 8647 in 162 innings
  • Michael Clarke - 8643 in 198 innings

Additionally, he completed his 30th Test ton, thereby overtaking Bradman's tally of 29 Test centuries.

Smith continued his love affair with the SCG, stitching an incredible 209-run stand with Usman Khawaja for the third wicket. His knock, involving eleven fours and two sixes, has set the tone for a massive first innings score for Australia. 

As of writing, the hosts are 373 for 3, with Khawaja and Travis Head batting on 164* and 6*, respectively.
