James Vince thinks the perfect combination of the luck and their incredible performances, helped them to secure a resounding victory against Northants last week.

On the last day of the fixture, Northamptonshire began Day 4 on 153/3, still trailing by 72 runs, after being enforced a follow-on. On the other hand, Hampshire needed seven wickets to win the game.

However, the entire morning session was washed out, which dented Hampshire's hopes of securing a victory. Furthermore, they missed the services of their experienced pacer Kyle Abbott due to a lower leg injury.

To everyone's surprise, the likes of Keith Barker and Mohammad Abbas wreaked havoc to pick wickets in quick succession.

As the rain again started to pour down, the talented pacer, James Fuller refused to bog down and took out the last wicket to secure a dominating victory for Hampshire by an innings and four runs.

Interestingly, the rain got heavier following the victory of Hampshire, which is where Vince thinks the luck went in their favour.

In addition, Hampshire availed maximum points (24), and are now at top of the table, while eight points ahead of second-placed Surrey.

Here is what Vince had to say:

“It is an incredible win. The weather played a massive part in the game but I think we were outstanding when we got out there.

"But it makes it more meaningful and special that literally the ball after the wicket it starts to hammer it down with rain. We knew it was going to be the last ball.

“That extra eight points is huge. It has given the guys so much belief and to win in that fashion is amazing."
