County Championship 2022 Division II | Worcestershire secure a dominating victory over Sussex

Day 3 of the County Championship 2022 fixture between Worcestershire and Sussex ended with the former winning by an innings and 34 runs.

The Worcs bowlers were too good for the injury-hit Sussex team, as they ran down the whole batting order within a day. The Sussex team started the day at 169/5 but fell like a pack of cards.

It was another chastening performance from the Sussex team with the ball in this fixture, as they conceded 491 runs in the first innings. In their earlier fixtures, teams like Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire amassed 500+ runs as well.

Seasoned campaigner Cheteshwar Pujara returned as the best batter for the Sussex team with a century in the first innings. However, his heroics could not avoid the follow-on, as the team stuttered and was dismissed for a score of 269.

With the follow-on enforced, none of the Sussex batters could get starts and were dismissed early, barring the opener Alistair Orr who managed to score a fighting 33. In the lower order, Grant Steward remained unbeaten of 67 off 58, comprising three fours and five sixes.

Pakistan international Mohammad Rizwan was adjudged LBW with a peach from Ed Barnard. On the other hand, Dillon Pennington breached the defences of the centurion from the 1st innings, Pujara. Sussex's inning was eventually wrapped up for 188 and thus, were handed a defeat by an innings and 34 runs.

For Worcestershire, Brett D'Oliveira batted more than seven hours and registered an unbeaten 169, which propelled the team to a strong score, which proved to be enough, with Joe Leach wreaking havoc in both the innings.

With this crucial win, Worcs have now climbed to third place with 37 points under their belt and are tied equally on points with the second-place Glamorgan. On the other hand, Sussex languishes at the bottom of the table with no victories in three games.

The Sussex team will face Durham at Hove with a break of only four days, while Worcestershire will be up against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

IPL 2022 | SRH vs RCB | Jansen scripts comprehensive win for Sunrisers over Royal Challengers

On Saturday, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put up an emphatic performance with the ball to script an easy victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Brabourne Stadium. It was a walk in the park for the 'Men in Orange' as they reached the paltry target of 69 within eight overs. The match saw another disappointing outing from Virat Kohli, who registered consecutive golden ducks. The Challengers lost their first three batters with only eight runs on the board, and it was always going to be an arduous task from thereon. Glenn Maxwell and Suyash Prabhu Desai, the two batters who came in next, were the only two to reach double figures. The duo scored 12 and 15, respectively. Surprisingly, Dinesh Karthik, who has been hitting the bowlers for fun this season, went back without getting off the mark this time. After Karthik's wicket, it was only a matter of time for Sunrisers to wrap up the first innings as they struggled at 47/6. RCB could not even last the full quota of overs as their innings ended in 16.1 overs. Marco Jansen was the wrecker in chief for RCB, sending back the top three in his first over. T.Natarajan also bagged three wickets which included the important one of Maxwell. Jagadeesha Suchith picked up a couple of wickets among other bowlers, whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the express-fast Umran Malik ended their respective spells with a wicket each. Speaking of the run chase, Abhishek Sharma went off to a flying start hitting 47 off just 28 balls. Kane Williamson, who opened the innings alongside Sharma, played a quiet but steady knock of 16 runs from 17 balls. The only wicket of the SRH camp fell to Harshal Patel. The New Zealand spearhead and Rahul Tripathi remained unbeaten until the end as SRH moved up to the second spot in the table with 10 points on board. The only wicket of the SRH camp fell to Harshal Patel. RCB saw themselves go down to the 4th spot with 8 points in their locker with this loss. For his impressive performance with the ball, Jansen walked away with the 'Player of the Match' award. Brief Scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore - 68 in 16.1 overs overs Suyash Prabhudessai 15 (20); T Natarajan 3/10 (3), Marco Jansen 3/25 (4) Sunrisers Hyderabad - 72/1 in 8 overs Abhishek Sharma 47(28), Kane Williamson 16*(17); Harshal Patel 1/18(2) Sunrisers Hyderabad won by nine wickets.
