England women’s cricketer Charlie Dean has vowed to never get out of her crease until the bowler has finished delivering the ball. The all-rounder stated the same following her run-out at the hands of Deepti Sharma in the dramatic third ODI at Lord’s.

Dean was dismissed while she was backing up too far from her crease, at a time when England Women were nearing an improbable win in a dead rubber.

The English Women recently took on their Indian counterparts at Lord’s in the final match of the ODI series. While the ‘Women in Blue’ had already claimed the series through emphatic wins in the first two games, they were looking to give a fitting farewell to outbound Jhulan Goswami with a 3-0 sweep.

Harmanpreet Kaur and co. charted a paltry 169 upfront, and reduced the hosts to 65-7 at one stage. However, lower-order contribution from Charlie Dean stretched the English total past 150 and threatened to spoil Goswami’s swansong party.

Later, Indian spinner Deepti Sharma ran out a charging Dean from her end to seal the contest for the visitors. The move became a subject of controversy and received mixed responses from the cricketing fraternity. While some questioned Sharma’s integrity, the MCC themselves clarified the cricketer’s stance by calling it a fair mode of dismissal.

Dean, who was seen crying at Lord’s after being adjudged out by the third umpire, has now shared an emotional post on her Instagram story. She wrote:

“An interesting end to the summer. What an honour it is to play at lords in England colours. I guess I'll stay in my crease from now on.”

Meanwhile, Sharma defended her decision and claimed that she had warned the English woman several times not to leave her crease. While speaking with the reporters, the spinner said:

“That was our plan because she was repeatedly doing it and we had warned them too. We had also informed the umpires. But still, she was right there so there wasn't much we could do. We did everything according to the rules and guidelines.”
