The Melbourne Renegades have signed Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu for the ongoing WBBL 2022 season. The deal marks her second stint with the side, after having spent time at the Renegades camp between the 2017 and 2019 editions of the tournament.

She made her subsequent WBBL appearance in the 2021-22 season, albeit for the Perth Scorchers.
