In a massive setback for Australia, young all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against India due to injury. Australia have roped in experienced batter Marnus Labuschagne as Green's replacement. Interestingly, Labuschagne was dropped from Australia's ODI setup following his poor returns in 50-over cricket. However, his red-hot form in the Sheffield Shield as well as the domestic One-Day cup helped him regain his place in the side.

Injured Green replaced by Labuschagne in AUS ODI squad for IND series

As revealed by Cricket.com.au, Cameron Green sustained a low grade side soreness while aiming to resume bowling for Australia in white-ball cricket. The promising all-rounder has been playing purely as a batter since recovering from a string of career-threatening injuries. Just when it seemed like he was on track for a comeback as a proper all-rounder, the side injury shattered Green's hopes of featuring in the all-important ODI series against the Indian team.

Talking about Marnus Labuschagne, the right-handed batter has played 66 ODIs, scoring 1871 runs at a modest average of 34.6 and a strike rate of 83.6. Labuschagne managed only 241 runs across 12 ODI innings since 2024 before getting dropped from the Australian side due to inconsistent returns.

However, the right-handed batter has showcased prolific form in the ongoing Australian domestic season, amassing 237 runs, including two majestic centuries, across three innings at a superb average of 79 and a strike rate of 103.95. His batting excellence in recent matches paved the way for his ODI comeback, with Australia recalling him as Cameron Green's replacement.

Cameron Green's injury details and potential impact

A low-grade side soreness has sidelined Cameron Green from the ODI series between India and Australia. According to Cricket.com.au, Green's absence from the three-match series is precautionary, and he might return to competitive cricket through Western Australia's next Sheffield Shield match against South Australia, starting October 28. However, if his body is not allowing him to bowl much, Green might witness a significant dip in his IPL value.

With Green expected to play the all-rounder's role, like he has done for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the past, several franchises were waiting for his arrival in the mini auction. However, now that the injury has derailed his bowling prospects, we might not see a similar craze for the Australian all-rounder at the IPL auction table.

Australia's list of unavailable players for India ODIs

Cameron Green joins Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa on the list of unavailable Australian players, partially or fully, for the ODI series against India. While Carey was released from the squad to represent South Australia in the Sheffield Shield, a calf strain ruled Josh Inglis out of the first ODI, with Josh Philippe replacing him in the team. Meanwhile, Australia's premier spin bowler Adam Zampa will miss the first ODI due to family reasons. In his absence, left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann might play the first game at Perth Stadium.
