Ben Stokes, the guy who’s always in the thick of things for England, is back in the news but this time, it’s off the field. The England Test skipper had surgery on his torn hamstring and cheekily dubbed himself the "Bionic Man" in an Instagram post.

Ben Stokes Calls Himself 'Bionic Man' After Hamstring Surgery

Sitting in the backseat of a car, leg wrapped up in a brace and pillows, Ben Stokes told fans he’s down but definitely not out.

"Bionic Man for a while. Surgery done. In a bit…." That’s classic Stokes for you: dealing with an injury but still keeping it light.

Stokes’ Hamstring Injury

Stokes first hurt his hamstring during England’s last Test of 2024 in New Zealand. He pushed through for as long as he could but had to pull up mid-over in the Hamilton Test, unable to carry on. It was clear the damage was serious, and surgery became the only option. Now he’s looking at three months of rehab to get back to full fitness.

For fans hoping to see him at the Champions Trophy, there’s bad news. Stokes is officially out of the tournament, leaving England without their star all-rounder. With no Test cricket until May, though, he’s got a decent chunk of time to recover and prepare for the big summer ahead.

If you think this injury might slow Stokes down, think again. The man isn’t wired that way. Speaking about the injury, he made it clear he’s not planning to ease up anytime soon.

"It’s just one of those unfortunate things. I ain’t holding back. Every time you walk out on the field, you’re at risk of injury. You can’t play for anything in this game," Stokes told BBC Sport.

Stokes is all in, no matter the consequences.

He also added, "I'm obviously very disappointed, but every setback I come back stronger. There's no doubt I'll be going away from here, working [hard] as I always do and getting myself back to where I was in this game.”

What’s Next for Stokes?

Stokes might be out for now, but England’s next Test isn’t until May, a one-off against Zimbabwe. Then it’s the big one, a five-match series against India starting in June. That gives him plenty of time to focus on recovery and get back to his best.

For now, England will miss their talismanic skipper, but everyone knows Stokes. He’ll be back, probably stronger, fitter, and with that same fearless attitude. Until then, England fans will just have to wait for their skipper to return and do what he does best: take the game by the scruff of its neck.
