Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been slapped with a huge fine of Rs 24 lakh because his team took too long to finish their overs during the IPL match against Gujarat Titans on April 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

RR captain fined twice in IPL 2025

This was RR’s second slow over-rate offence of the season. According to IPL rules (Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct), when a team delays completing their overs for the second time, the captain has to pay a fine of Rs 24 lakh. Other players in the team, including the Impact Player, are fined Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee; whichever is less.

Interestingly, the first time RR made this mistake, it was Riyan Parag who was leading the team against Chennai Super Kings, as Sanju Samson was injured and only played as an Impact Player. Even then, a fine of Rs 24 lakh was imposed.

Gujarat Titans Register 4th Win In IPL 2025

Talking about the match, Sanju Samson played a good innings, scoring 41 runs off 28 balls. He shared a solid 48-run partnership with Riyan Parag. But after that, Royals collapsed under pressure due to Gujarat’s strong bowling. The Royals were chasing a big target of 218 runs, but they got all out for 159 runs in 19.2 overs, losing the match by a big margin of 58 runs.

For GT, Sai Sudharsan was the star. He scored a brilliant 82 off 53 balls. He was rightly awarded the Player of the Match. On the bowling side, Prasidh Krishna took 3 wickets for just 24 runs, while Rashid Khan and R Sai Kishore took 2 wickets each. With this win, GT made it 4 wins in a row this season.
