BCCI President and India's ICC representative to be elected on October 18

On October 18, Mumbai will host the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who spoke to the state units on Thursday night, the election for the president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer will take place on that day.


One general-body representative will be elected to the Apex Council and two general-body representatives will be inducted into the IPL governing council, according to the notice for the AGM distributed to state associations. Additionally, the BCCI will choose a delegate for the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The primary focus will be the choice of India's representative to the International Cricket Council. One of the significant issues on the agenda provided to the state organisations on Thursday night is the women's IPL.

N Srinivasan, a 77-year-old former BCCI strongman, and Sourav Ganguly, the organisation's 50-year-old president, are the two top names as of right now. The election agenda consists of 29 points. The Indian Cricketers' Association will choose two delegates (a male and a female) to serve on the Apex Council (ICA).

In 2019, the BCCI petitioned the Supreme Court to change its constitution. As a result, the BCCI's plea to amend its constitution to change the necessity for a cooling-off period for its executives was granted, allowing BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah to serve another term in office.

If elected, Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah would be able to serve in office till 2025. Additionally, individuals who are running for a BCCI position and have served in a state association for two terms in a row won't need to go through any cooling-off, and if elected, they can stay in the BCCI for another six years (two terms).

However, if a person who has served in a state association for two terms wishes to run for a state association again, they must wait three years before doing so. In practice, a person may continue to serve in both the state organisation and the BCCI for a total of 12 years.
