It has been more than two weeks since the Asia Cup 2025 ended, but it seems like Pakistan players and their commentators are unable to move on from the crushing defeat in the finals, as they once again ignited the handshake row during the recently concluded first Test between them and South Africa in Lahore.
Pakistan ex-cricketers make unnecessary comments on India
The Asia Cup witnessed more controversy than matches as India and Pakistan had several heated moments due to the ongoing turmoil between the two nations. The Men in Blue defeated Pakistan in the finale, and they are unable to digest the loss even when everyone else has moved on.
After the first Test was over with Pakistan emerging victorious, the two teams met each other and shook hands. This ignited the controversy as Pakistani commentators, Ramiz Raja and Aamir Sohail, took a dig at India by stating:
Aamir Sohail said, "Good to see both teams shaking hands, it’s getting out of fashion these days."
Ramiz Raja entered the conversation: "It’s getting out of hands."
How the handshake controversy erupted between India and Pakistan
Due to the Pahalgam terror attack in India in April 2025, the Indian team refused to shake hands with the Pakistan players. Throughout the three matches that the sides played (group stage, Super 4, Final), India ignored its counterparts and this infuriated the Men in Green.
Pakistan knocked on the door of ICC as they lodged a complaint against match referee Andy Pycroft, and they even threatened to boycott the UAE clash in the Asia Cup. The PCB wrote two different letters to the ICC, and both got rejected. This small handshake row ignited numerous controversies as India refused to take the Asia Cup trophy from ACC head Mohsin Naqvi, who eventually ran away with the cup.
