BCCI announces Women's Squad for the CWG 2022

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (July 11) announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham.


Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the 15-player group, and Smriti Mandhana has been named as the vice-captain of the Indian women's team that is set to play in the tournament. However, senior players like Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey have been left out of the squad.


Simran Dil Bahadur, Richa Ghosh, and India's premier leg spinner Poonam Yadav will travel to England with the squad as stand-by players.




The upcoming Commonwealth Games (CWG) will have a new addition as Women's T20 Cricket is all set to make its debut.


The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women's team is placed in group A with Australia, Pakistan, and Barbados for the CWG 2022 Cricket.


The women in blue will face Australia on July 29, arch-rivals Pakistan on July 31, and end the group stage against Barbados on August 3.


The eight-team tournament will be played in a round-robin format. The group winners and runners-up from both groups will play in the semifinal round, with the winners advancing to the Gold Medal match. The losing semi-finalists will play in the Bronze Medal match. 


Iconic Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham will host all the tournament matches.
