BBL 2022: Adam Gilchrist reacts to David Warner's salary hike

Former Australian keeper Adam Gilchrist has opined that offering a lucrative Big Bash League (BBL) contract to David Warner will be a headache for Cricket Australia (CA).

Warner was reported to be offered an AUD 700,000 contract by the UAE-based International League T20 (ILT20) and was expected to ditch the BBL. It was widely reported that the top bracket salary of the BBL 2022-23 is AUD 340,000, which is much lesser than the ILT20.

However, Warner did not mark his presence in the first sign-on released by the ILT20, which put all the speculations to rest.

A recent report suggests that CA and Sydney Thunder is likely to offer a multi-million deal to Warner, which has left Gilchrist wondering.

Gilchrist calls for lucrative packages to Maxwell and Stoinis

The Aussie veteran is delighted with the return of Warner in Australia's home-grown T20 League, but thinks the lucrative package should also be offered to key BBL players like Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.

It is evident that Maxwell is third, while Stoinis ranks eighth in the highest run-scorers in the BBL history. In fact, they both have registered the highest individual scores in the tournament.

“He (Warner) is potentially going to play a handful of games (for Thunder) — that’s wonderful for our tournament, for our broadcast, for the spectators, for everyone," Gilchrist said on SEN’s Whateley.

“It creates a headache, a definite headache, and they (Cricket Australia) are clearly aware of it, for the guys like Maxwell and Stoinis and Co who have been absolute stalwarts of the Big Bash, having managed to initially let it rise and then keep it alive in the last few years."

Gilchrist feels Lynn should be granted NOC to play in ILT20

The 50-year-old claims that Chris Lynn, the only Australian player in the first set of players in the ILT20 should be granted NOC by CA.

Gilchrist thinks Lynn should be permitted to feature in ILT20, as he doesn't possess a BBL contract or the Australian Cricket central contract.
