Opening batter Jason Roy has been handed a captaincy role for the Oval Invincibles' clash against Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Thursday (11 August).

The regular captain Sam Billings is currently featuring for England Lions in a practice game against South Africa. In fact, Billings is the leader of the team as well for the fixture, which will end on Friday.

Furthermore, the team's top run-scorer Will Jacks, who would have been the ideal choice for this role is also playing for the Lions. Jacks led Surrey in the quarter-final of the recently concluded Vitality Blast.

Can inexperienced captain Jason Roy continue Invincibles momentum?

It will the first occasion for Roy to captain a senior team in any coveted tournament. However, the 32-year-old has the experience of playing close to 300 T20 matches in his professional career since 2008.

Lately, the top-order batter has been enduring an abysmal form in international cricket. He could contribute only 76 runs in six T20I appearances against India and South Africa. Roy has started the Hundred on a disappointing note as well with scores of 0 and 10.

Invincibles' opened their account in the last game by securing a 39-run victory over the Welsh Fire. It will be interesting to see if Roy, along with the support of the Curran brothers and Sunil Narine help Invincibles' to solidify their position in the points table.
