In an extraordinary display of cricketing brilliance, Bangladesh recorded a massive 150-run victory over New Zealand at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh soars past India in WTC rankings

This win, marking their first home win against the Kiwis in Test cricket, has catapulted Bangladesh above India in the World Test Championship 2023-25 rankings, placing them in an impressive second position.

The victory, only Bangladesh’s second in Test matches against New Zealand, was a remarkable feat, highlighting their growing dominance in the Test circuit.

Chasing a challenging target of 332, New Zealand was bowled out for 181, largely due to Taijul Islam's exceptional six-wicket haul in the second innings that left Kiwi batters scrambling for answers.

Bangladesh's strategic mastery was evident throughout the match. The hosts bounced back strongly after a narrow seven-run deficit in the first innings. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's commanding century played a crucial role as he led from the front in setting a massive target for New Zealand. Despite a fighting 58 by New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, the visitors' efforts fell short against Bangladesh's determined bowling attack.

The significant leapfrogging of India by Bangladesh in the World Test Championship standings is proof of their remarkable progress in the Test format. Occupying the second spot, Bangladesh now only trails Pakistan in the championship table, with India in the third position. Australia and West Indies round out the top five.

This win signals a notable change in the landscape of international cricket, showcasing Bangladesh's growing stature as a formidable force in the Test circuit.
