In a significant development, Bangladesh legend Mahmudullah is set to hang up his boots from T20Is following the ongoing three match T20I series against India.
According to reports from Sportskeeda, a BCB official told them that Mahmudullah will retire from the shortest format of the match after the India series. It is worth noting that the veteran was all set to bid adieu to the game after the T20 World Cup 2024 but was named in the squad for the ongoing series.
India will face Bangladesh for the 2nd T20I on October 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. According to the reports, Mahmudullah is likely to announce his decision ahead of the 2nd T20I.
"It's not a break, he wants to bring an end to the T20I chapter. He is supposed to announce it in this series," a BCB official told The Daily Star.
Mahmudullah's Journey With Bangladesh
Mahmudullah started his journey in T20Is in 2007 and has featured in 139 games for The Tigers. He is the 2nd leading run-getter with 2395 runs, only behind Shakib, who has 2551 runs. It is worth noting that Mahmudullah is also the most-capped star for Bangladesh in T20Is.
He has also contributed with the ball and has 40 wickets in the shortest format of the match. Notably, Mahmudullah has already retired from Test cricket back in 2021 and only plays white-ball games. In the first T20I against India, Mahmudullah fell for just 1 and became Mayank Yadav's maiden India wicket.
Mahmudullah Goes Shakib's Way
Notably, Bangladesh is undergoing a transition as recently their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan also announced his decision to bid adieu from T20Is. Shakib is not a part of the current T20I squad and is likely to play his last Test match against South Africa in the upcoming series at Mirpur.
