Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Monday (August 22) freed the head coach Russell Domingo from the T20I side ahead of the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2022 and asked him to focus on the One-Day Internationals and the longest format of the game.
The BCB President Nazmul Hassan while announcing the development said that the former Indian cricketer Sridharan Sriram, who was named the technical consultant of the team last week, will look after the team in the upcoming tournament.
The former South African Domingo was initially roped in by Bangladesh as head coach back in August 2019 on a two-year deal. Later, the BCB extended it until November 2023.
However, owing to Bangladesh's recent T20 struggles, BCB decided to free him for the quickest setup and asked him to focus on the remaining two formats. Notably, Bangladesh has won just two of their last 15 T20s and suffered their maiden series loss to Zimbabwe earlier this month.
BCB President Nazmul Hassan had his say on the development
"Russell Domingo won't be part of the T20 set-up. He will be with ODIs and Tests," Nazmul was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.
"There's no 'head coach for the T20 side."
"We have a batting coach, a spin coach, fast bowling coach, and a fielding coach. We also have the captain. We also have a technical consultant for T20s. He will give the game plan."
