Babar, Shaheen move up in Test rankings; Gill retains number 1 ODI spot despite failure in Perth

In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC), on Wednesday, updated the men's player rankings. While Noman Ali jumped to the second place in Test bowlers' rankings, Babar Azam, Mitchell Marsh and Harry Brook made notable gains on the batters' list across formats. 

Babar, Agha Salman and Rizwan move up in Test rankings

Pakistan's experienced batting trio of Babar Azam, Agha Salman and Mohammad Rizwan made notable progress on the list of Test batters. Babar, who scored 65 runs in the first Test against South Africa, moved two places up to number 22, while Rizwan (33 runs in Lahore Test) and Salman (97 runs in Lahore Test) jumped four and eight spots, respectively, finishing the week as the 16th and 30th-ranked Test batters. 

Noman Ali jumps to 2nd place; Shaheen makes progress

In a major development, Pakistan's veteran spinner Noman Ali moved four places up, becoming the second-ranked Test bowler after his stunning ten-wicket haul in the Lahore Test. He is only 29 rating points behind India's Jasprit Bumrah, the top-ranked Test bowler with 882 points under his belt. On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi's four-wicket haul in the fourth innings of the Lahore Test helped him earn crucial rating points and move three spots up to number 19 in the Test bowlers' rankings. 

Gill retains number 1 spot in ODIs; Iyer falls, Rahul moves up

Among India's prominent batters, Shubman Gill (1st) , Virat Kohli (5th) and Rohit Sharma (3rd) maintained their respective positions on the ODI batters' chart despite failing in the first ODI against Australia at Perth Stadium. However, Shreyas Iyer's failure in Perth saw him lose valuable rating points and fall to the tenth spot, with KL Rahul's heroics resulting in his rise by one place to the 14th. 

Hazlewood enters top 10; Starc, Mehidy surge in ODI bowlers' rankings

Josh Hazlewood's phenomenal outing in the first ODI against India (2 for 20 in 7 overs) helped him move six places up to the tenth, while Mitchell Starc and Mehidy Hasan Miraz made significant progress, finishing the week as the 21st and 18th-ranked ODI bowlers, respectively, on the back of solid performances against India and West Indies, respectively. 

Other notable developments in ICC rankings

Harry Brook, who hammered 78 runs in the first T20I against New Zealand, jumped 18 places to claim the joint 20th place. Adil Rashid entered the top five on the bowlers' list after scalping four wickets in the same match. Liam Livingstone moved two places down to the tenth, with Axar Patel and Rashid Khan claiming the ninth and eighth spots in the T20I all-rounders' rankings.
