Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is on the cusp of becoming the most successful T20I captain of his country in the forthcoming Asia Cup.

Babar, who was appointed Pakistan's T20I skipper in September 2019, has led his nation to 26 victories in 41 outings. While Pakistan suffered defeats in 10 matches, five have ended in a no-result.

Babar's predecessor, Sarfaraz Ahmed, remains the most successful Pakistan captain in the shortest format of the game.

Ahmed, who was sacked following a humiliating home series defeat to a second-string Sri Lankan side, led Pakistan to the No.1 spot in the T20I rankings between 2016-19.

The wicketkeeper led Pakistan to 29 victories from 37 matches with a Win% of 78.37. Babar's Win% currently is 72.22.

Babar will have a golden opportunity to leapfrog his predecessor in the forthcoming Asia Cup.

But, can Babar Azam inspire a depleted Pakistan squad to Asia Cup triumph?

The Asia Cup could well prove to be an extremely stern test for Captain Babar.

Having already been hamstrung by injuries to his senior paceman Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Azam's captaincy will be put to a massive test.

Pakistan will open their Asia Cup campaign against arch-rivals and defending champions, India, in Dubai on Sunday.

Pakistan have managed just 2 Asia Cup titles in the tournament's history and they are yet to qualify for the finals since the 2014 event.
